Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao is set to receive one of the highest honors in sports as he enters the International Boxing Hall of Fame this June. The accolade comes just weeks before his anticipated return to the Senate, where he aims to resume his work as a public servant.

Hall of Fame Induction

Pacquiao, the only boxer in history to win championships across eight weight divisions, was selected for the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. The induction ceremony will take place in Canastota, New York, from June 5 to 8, where he will join an elite group of Filipino boxing icons, including Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, Ceferino Garcia, and Pancho Villa.

“Throughout my career as a professional fighter and public servant, it has been my goal to bring honor to my country, the Philippines, and my fellow Filipinos,” Pacquiao said in a statement.

With a professional record of 62 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws—39 of those victories by knockout—Pacquiao faced and defeated eight other Hall of Famers during his career, including Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, and Oscar de la Hoya.

Political Comeback

While Pacquiao has retired from competitive boxing, he is gearing up for another fight: a return to public service. Recent surveys place him among the frontrunners in the May Senate elections, running alongside the 1-Pacman Party List, a group advocating for sports development and poverty alleviation.

The 1-Pacman Party List, which previously served in Congress under the leadership of Rep. Mikee Romero, will field Pacquiao’s brother, Bobby Pacquiao, and entrepreneur Milka Romero as nominees in the upcoming elections.

Pacquiao’s election platform focuses on fighting corruption and advancing nationwide sports programs.

Legacy in Boxing and Public Service

At 46, Pacquiao continues to balance his dual roles as a national sports hero and public servant. His induction into the Hall of Fame alongside long-time trainer Freddie Roach cements his legacy in the sport.

As Pacquiao transitions into the next phase of his career, he aims to bring the same determination that earned him accolades in the ring to his role as a lawmaker.

“By the time I stand on the Hall of Fame stage in June, I hope to also stand as a proud representative of the Filipino people in the Senate,” Pacquiao said.
