Vice President Sara Duterte has expressed her readiness to face the three impeachment complaints filed against her, maintaining that she did not break any law.
In a 24 Oras report on Wednesday, Duterte stated that she has legal counsel prepared to defend her if the cases proceed to an impeachment trial. She also revealed that her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, has offered to serve as one of her lawyers.
“Well, I am confident that I did not break any law. I did not do anything illegal. When the cases are there, then we will face it,” the Vice President said.
Allegations of Fund Misuse
The complaints center on the alleged misuse of ₱612 million in confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President (OVP). Duterte, however, reiterated that she welcomes the cases, as they focus solely on her actions and exclude her staff and former colleagues in the Department of Education (DepEd).
“It’s okay they filed an impeachment case since I’ll only be the one who’s being attacked and investigated. My staff in the OVP and my former colleagues in DepEd will no longer be involved. I can finally answer what they are accusing me of,” Duterte explained.
Legal and Political Context
The Vice President emphasized her willingness to address the accusations directly, ensuring that her office’s operations and reputation remain intact during the proceedings.
