Piolo Pascual, one of Philippine showbiz’s enduring heartthrobs, credits “self-love” and adaptability as the cornerstones of his lasting appeal and relevance.
Recently named the Philippine ambassador for a global apparel brand, Pascual reflected on his career in an online interview with INQUIRER.net, emphasizing the balance between embracing his looks and honing his craft.
“Self-care, self-love, and always being open to change [help me balance things]. Just being open to growth as an actor and adapting to the times are key. It’s important to ensure everything you do remains interesting,” Pascual shared.
The Secret to Staying Relevant
Pascual, whose career spans decades, acknowledged that staying relevant in show business requires commitment and evolution.
“Commitment to the craft is the most important thing. You need to look for roles that challenge you and push you out of your comfort zone,” he said. “The biggest challenge is keeping your audience interested—always showing them that you have something new to offer.”
For Pascual, reinvention is part of the job. “You have to be a chameleon and consciously take on roles that will surprise and engage your audience,” he added.
Beyond Money
When asked about his criteria for accepting roles and endorsements, Pascual stressed the importance of personal growth over financial gain.
“I have to believe in what I do. It’s not just about the money but about knowing that the project will help me grow, both as an artist and a person,” he explained.
Upcoming Film: The Kingdom
Pascual stars in The Kingdom alongside Vice Sotto, one of the 10 official entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024. The film premieres in Philippine cinemas on December 25, adding another exciting milestone to Pascual’s illustrious career.
