Veteran actress Claudine Barretto proudly took on the role of a “stage tita” at the contract signing of newcomer Alfy Yan with Viva Artists Agency. Yan is the nephew of the late actor Rico Yan, Barretto’s former love-team partner and ex-boyfriend.
Barretto, who helped connect Alfy with Viva, said it felt like “divine intervention” led him to pursue a career in showbiz.
“Even before Alfy went public on social media, he already had many followers—partly because of Rico, but also because of his own personality,” Barretto shared at the press conference held on December 10.
Inspired by Rico Yan’s Legacy
Barretto recalled being struck by Alfy’s resemblance to his late uncle when they first met, describing the moment as giving her goosebumps. During that meeting, Barretto asked Alfy if he wanted to try showbiz, and his enthusiastic response surprised her and his family.
She quickly reached out to Vic Del Rosario, Viva’s Chairman and CEO, who welcomed the opportunity to work with Alfy.
Alfy Yan’s Journey
Alfy expressed gratitude for Barretto’s support, which he credited as one of the reasons he decided to enter showbiz. He shared that Barretto encouraged him to remain authentic as he embarks on his new journey.
Reflecting on his connection to Rico Yan, Alfy admitted feeling both the pressure and the privilege of carrying on his uncle’s legacy.
“At first, it was shocking because I didn’t realize how big his impact was. There’s a bit of pressure, but it’s heartwarming to see so much support,” he said.
Just a “Stage Tita”
While Barretto played a key role in introducing Alfy to showbiz, she clarified that she is not his manager, saying with a laugh, “Stage tita lang (Just a stage aunt).”
