Rico Blanco’s Musical Legacy
Blanco, who gained fame as Rivermaya’s chief songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist from 1994 to 2007, is regarded as one of the Philippines’ most influential rock icons. His solo career, which began in 2008, further cemented his status with hits like You’ll Be Safe Here, Kisapmata, Your Universe, and Amats.
Earlier this year, Blanco revived Kisapmata with a music video featuring actress Maris Racal, his ex-girlfriend, portraying a telecaster.
Controversy Surrounding Racal
Racal, who confirmed her relationship with Blanco in May 2021, was recently linked to a controversy involving her Incognito co-star Anthony Jennings. Jennings’ ex-girlfriend accused Racal and Jennings of having an improper relationship, sharing alleged text messages as evidence.
Despite personal controversies, Blanco’s artistry continues to shine, with Liwanag sa Dilim promising to celebrate his musical genius on stage.
