Wembanyama Shines as Spurs Edge Rockets in Thrilling Home Opener

Victor Wembanyama led the San Antonio Spurs to a 109-106 victory over the Houston Rockets in their home opener, scoring 29 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Wembanyama shot 10 of 17 from the field, while Jeremy Sochan added 17 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Paul contributed three points and nine assists, including a clutch setup for Sochan’s layup, extending San Antonio’s lead to 104-99 in the final minutes.

The Rockets, led by Jalen Green with 27 points and Fred VanVleet with 18, staged an impressive fourth-quarter comeback after trailing by as much as 22. However, San Antonio held firm, with key assists from Paul setting up Wembanyama for memorable alley-oop dunks that brought the crowd to its feet. The Spurs outrebounded the Rockets 57-46, showing the physicality Coach Gregg Popovich has emphasized for his team.

The two teams will meet again on Monday for a rematch in San Antonio.
