MANILA, Philippines — Veteran entertainment columnist Cristy Fermin has been charged with five counts of cyberlibel following a complaint filed by actress Sharon Cuneta and her husband, former senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan. The Makati Prosecutor’s Office approved the charges against Fermin, stemming from multiple videos she uploaded on her YouTube channel “Showbiz Now Na!”
The complaint, filed last May, alleges that Fermin publicly criticized Cuneta’s personal life, including her strained relationship with her daughter KC Concepcion and supposed marital issues with Pangilinan. Some of the video titles include “KC, dedma lang sa mga comments ni Mega!” and “Palusot ni Sharon, buking!”
The prosecutor’s office recommended a bail of ₱48,000 for each count, totaling ₱240,000. Fermin is set to face trial for these charges under Article 355 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
