MANILA — Sam Concepcion has set social media abuzz with photos showcasing his muscular physique in the Manila production of Once on This Island. Even after the show ended its run in late September, fans continue to gush over Concepcion’s portrayal of Daniel Beauxhomme, a character he alternated with Jef Flores. The role saw Concepcion donning a white tank top, which displayed his toned arms and captivated audiences online.
Images from the show, posted on Instagram by 9 Works Theatrical, have drawn admiration, with fans on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook calling Concepcion their “childhood crush” and even “daddy.” Concepcion playfully acknowledged the attention, joking on X about occasionally becoming a “meme.”
In an Instagram post, Concepcion expressed his love for the musical and the experience of bringing the Caribbean retelling of The Little Mermaid to life. Once on This Island tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who falls for French nobleman Daniel, played by Concepcion, only to face heartbreak as Daniel is destined to marry another.
The Manila production, which ran from September 6 to 29, featured a star-studded cast, including Angela Ken and Thea Astley as Ti Moune, and Shanaia Gomez and Krystal Kane as Andrea Devereaux.
