Darren Espanto Discharged from Hospital After Appendicitis Attack

Darren Espanto has been released from the hospital following an appendicitis attack.

On Instagram, the “It’s Showtime” host shared an update on his hospitalization along with several photos.

“What a plot twist! Life update: I thought I was heading straight to work after landing, but the universe had other plans,” Darren wrote.

He recounted his experience leading up to the hospital visit. “From the airport to the hospital. I woke up on the plane from Los Angeles at around 1 a.m. (Manila Time) with some stomach pain. I initially thought I was just super hungry. After we landed 4 hours later, the pain worsened once I got into the car.”

At first, Darren suspected it was just gas, but the pain soon became unbearable. He asked to be taken to the nearest hospital, where a CT scan revealed he had appendicitis. He underwent an appendectomy immediately.

“Thankfully, my appendix hadn’t ruptured yet. I went to our doctor at St. Luke’s [Hospital] and had a laparoscopy all within 5 hours!” he shared.

Darren expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and fans who visited and sent him gifts. “Finally discharged and hope to get back to work soon! I’d like to apologize for the commitments I had to cancel because of this. Thank you for understanding,” he concluded.

Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix. According to Dr. Rolando Balburias in a “Pinoy MD” episode, the most common cause is the blockage of the appendix’s connection to the large intestine.
