PARIS – The United States men’s basketball team secured their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal with a 98-87 victory over France at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday. The American team, led by a spirited LeBron James, wore golden sneakers in celebration of the occasion.
The highly anticipated match, held at the Bercy Arena, drew the attention of the French nation. Despite a determined effort from the French team, the Americans proved too strong, repeating their triumph from the Tokyo 2021 Olympic gold medal game. This defeat was particularly painful for the French as it occurred on their home turf.
France will have another chance at basketball glory on Sunday, but their women’s team will face an even more formidable challenge against the dominant American women’s team, who have not lost an Olympic game since 1992 and are aiming for their eighth consecutive gold medal.
In the bronze medal match, Serbia defeated Germany to secure third place.
