Carlos Yulo’s grandfather, Rodrigo Frisco, eagerly anticipates reuniting with his grandson following Yulo’s victorious performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Frisco, who was one of Yulo’s earliest supporters in gymnastics, expressed his pride and excitement. “Congratulations, Caloy. We miss you so much,” Frisco shared in Mariz Umali’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday. “It’s been a long time since we last saw and talked to each other. We are very proud of you.”
Yulo, who clinched a gold medal in the men’s vault final, will return to the Philippines on Tuesday night, arriving at Villamor Airbase alongside other Olympians.
Upon arrival, the athletes will be greeted by their loved ones and then taken to Malacañang Palace, where President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos will host an awarding ceremony in the ceremonial hall, followed by a dinner reception. Each Olympian will receive a Presidential Citation, with Yulo also being honored with a Presidential Medal of Merit. Additionally, the athletes will receive cash incentives from the Office of the President, supplementing the mandated rewards for medalists.
On Wednesday afternoon, a 7.7-kilometer Hero’s Welcome parade will take place from Aliw Theater to the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, culminating in a short program at the complex.
The Philippines concluded the Paris Olympics with a strong showing, securing two gold medals from Yulo and two bronze medals from Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio.
