Luis “Chavit” Singson, the former governor of Ilocos Sur, found himself in hot water as his convoy was ticketed for unauthorized use of the EDSA busway, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The incident, which occurred on a busy Monday, involved one of the vehicles carrying Singson, drawing attention to the strict enforcement of traffic rules on the major thoroughfare.
The MMDA’s special operations group emphasized their commitment to fair and correct enforcement, stating that any unauthorized vehicle on the busway would be apprehended to maintain order and fairness. This action aligns with the MMDA’s heightened penalties for misusing the bus lane, introduced in November 2023, which can reach up to P30,000 for repeated offenses.
Singson reportedly accepted the violation ticket without objection, although he has not publicly commented on the incident. This event underscores the MMDA’s dedication to upholding traffic regulations and ensuring that high-profile individuals are not exempt from the law.
