VP Sara Duterte Announces Candidacy for 2025 Mid-Term Elections

Vice President Sara Duterte has declared her intention to run in the upcoming 2025 mid-term elections, despite her current term as vice president not ending until 2028. The announcement was made during her speech at a gathering in Davao City, as reported by Jandi Esteban from GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on GMA News 24 Oras.

In her address, VP Duterte mentioned that her brothers, Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte of Davao City and Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo “Polong” Duterte, had expressed their intentions not to seek re-election. “Narinig ko na ang aking kapatid na sina Mayor Baste at Congressman Pulong, na nagsabi na hindi na tatakbo sa susunod na eleksyon. Kaya narito ako ngayon para mangampanya sa inyo dahil tatakbo ako sa susunod na eleksyon,” she stated, indicating her readiness to continue her political journey.

While the specific position she aims to pursue in the 2025 elections remains undisclosed, the upcoming elections will determine senators, congresspersons, and local officials. This early declaration from VP Duterte has sparked curiosity and anticipation within the political sphere.

In tandem with her election announcement, VP Duterte also expressed her dismay over the alleged vote-buying practices linked to the people’s initiative, a method for amending the Constitution. She criticized such actions as demeaning to ordinary and impoverished Filipinos, reflecting negatively on the character of politicians who resort to these tactics during elections.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, VP Sara Duterte’s candidature adds a new dimension to the 2025 mid-term elections. With her term as vice president not due to conclude until 2028, her early commitment to another electoral race underscores her active engagement and future aspirations within the Philippine political arena.
