COVID-19 Cases on the Upswing in the Philippines

The recent update regarding COVID-19 in the Philippines highlights a surge in cases. On a particular Tuesday, the nation recorded 360 new COVID-19 infections, elevating the cumulative number of cases since the pandemic began to 4,130,671. This day marked the 12th consecutive reporting day with at least 180 new cases daily.

Active cases saw an increase of 118, bringing the total to 4,898. This figure represents the highest number of active cases reported in 95 days, since July 23, when the count stood at 5,121. Fortunately, the number of recoveries also increased by 242, reaching a total of 4,058,978, while the death toll remained stable at 66,795.

Regionally, the National Capital Region experienced the most significant surge in new COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks, with 1,946 cases. It was followed by Calabarzon with 751, Western Visayas with 475, Central Luzon with 329, and Central Visayas with 138 cases. Within cities and provinces, Quezon City led with 549 new cases, followed by Rizal province (241 cases), Makati City (204), Cavite province (203), and Iloilo province (201).

The country’s COVID-19 bed occupancy rate stood at 15.9%, with 2,953 beds occupied, including 1,861 in the ICU, leaving 15,565 beds vacant​​.
