MSU Gymnasium Bombing: Engineering Graduate Identified as Suspect

The Mindanao State University (MSU) gymnasium bombing, a harrowing event that resulted in four deaths and nearly fifty injuries, has seen recent developments in the investigation. Kadapi Mimbesa, known as “Engineer,” a recent MSU graduate, has been identified as a key suspect. According to reports on “State of the Nation” by Mav Gonzales, Mimbesa was recognized at the scene prior to the explosion. Witnesses described him as tense and preoccupied with his cellphone, and CCTV footage captured him leaving the gymnasium shortly before the attack.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has linked Mimbesa and another suspect, Arsani Membisa, alias “Khatab,” to the Daulah Islamiyah-Maute terrorist group. Both suspects have outstanding warrants and are allegedly skilled in creating improvised explosive devices. The PNP, through spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo, emphasized the importance of capturing these individuals, and the government has offered a substantial reward for information leading to “Engineer’s” arrest.

In response to the tragedy, the House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 1504, condemning the bombing in the strongest terms. The resolution, emphasizing the need for a swift investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators, acknowledges the gravity of the attack, which not only claimed lives but also threatened the peace process in Mindanao. The bombing has been described as an appalling act of violence against innocent students and a disruption to the region’s peace and security.

The MSU incident underscores the ongoing challenges of terrorism and violence in the region, prompting calls for thorough investigations by the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other government agencies. The resolution underscores the necessity of addressing such acts of lawlessness and terrorism to ensure the safety and prosperity of Mindanao and its communities.
