The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the Geminid and Ursid meteor showers will light up the Philippine night sky this December.

The Geminid meteor shower will be active from December 4 to 17, with its peak activity on December 14.

PAGASA explained that Geminids are expected to produce a nominal rate of about 120 meteors per hour. It can be seen in the night sky around 7:12PM with its best display around 2AM.

On the other hand, the Ursid meteor shower, will be active from December 17 to 26, and  it will peak on December 22.

PAGASA said that Ursid meteor showers will be low in the sky, so you will only see around four meteors per hour.

Anyone can spot and enjoy the meteor showers because they can be seen with the naked eye. No special equipment like telescopes or binoculars are needed.

PAGASA advises viewing the meteor showers in a dark area to fully enjoy the meteor shower viewing experience.
