MANILA, Philippines — Miss Philippines Earth 2022, Jenny Ramp wowed Pinoy and international pageant fans with her “Carabao Festival” inspired National Costume for the ongoing Miss Earth International competition.

With their national costumes, more than 90 Miss Earth candidates from various countries showed elegance and creativity while showcasing well-known locations in their homeland.

Ramp’s vibrant and exquisite NatCos made of local woven handicrafts, topped with a large carabao head piece, were one of the highlights of the segment.

It was designed by Filipino designer Nere Ku, the costume designer for Jane De Leon and Iza Calzado in the Drama Action series “Darna.”

“The Carabao Festival is celebrated in various provinces while in some, they celebrate the Kneeling Carabao Festival. The festival is celebrated by towns and municipalities whose patron saint is San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers. The feast is to honor both San Isidro and the Carabaos,” Ramp said in an Instagram post.

“The carabao is a species water buffalo found in Southeast Asian countries, like the Philippines. It has a special place in Filipino culture, symbolizing hard work and perseverance, traits that are dear to people of the Filipino heritage. It is in this reason that the carabao is a symbolic animal to Filipinos.”

“Carabaos are warmly associated with farmers as their helper especially during harvest — “MASAGANANG ANI.”
