Philippines Detects 3 More Cases of Omicron BA.2.12.1

On Tuesday, the Department of Health reported that three more cases of the Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 have been detected in the country.

One returning Filipino and two local cases were found in Western Visayas. The returning Filipino is fully vaccinated. One of the two local cases is also fully vaccinated, while the status of the other is still being verified. 

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that it is not community transmission and assured that there is no cause for worry as the infection is not widespread. 

The BA.2.12.1 subvariant has been detected in 23 countries. Majority of the COVID-19 cases in the United States are due to this Omicron subvariant. 

DOH currently does not classify it as a variant of concern.
