MANILA, Philippines — Meralco announced that customers can expect lower electricity bills this month.
The rate adjustment this month was lowered by ₱0.12 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), generating a total rate of ₱10.0630/kWh this month. This entails a decrease between ₱24 to ₱60 per kWh in bills consuming 200 kWh to 600 kWh per month.
The power distributor explained that the reduction was because of the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) order to Meralco to refund ₱7.8 billion of tariffs for the period of July 2011 to June 2015.
Meralco also stated the Wholesale Electric Spot Market (WESM) charges also dipped by ₱0.8664/kWh which they ascribed to lower Luzon grid demand.
Taxes, transmission charge, and other charges for residential customers will also be eased by ₱0.8664/kWh this May.
