MANILA, Philippines – In a press briefing on Monday, Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said the Congress sees proclamation of the country’s two new highest officials is feasible by May 27 or 28.
It is the duty of the Congress, composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives, to canvass and to declare the winners for the presidential and vice presidential positions.
On May 9, the congress showed the public the initialization of the vote consolidation and canvassing system (CCS) machine which reflected 0 votes for all candidates, in preparation for the actual canvassing.
Sotto said they plan to begin canvassing on May 24 after resuming session on May 23.
“It’s possible kung mag-start kami ng 24, 25. The third day is 26 or 27. It looks promising that we will be able to proclaim by the 27th,” according to Sotto.
Velasco took in account the automated process for this year’s election’s earlier proclamation saying, “I think it won’t take long kasi if you look at earlier proclamations, yung mga past canvassing natin it was done manually. This time it’s going to be computerized…”
“Just a click of the computer and we’ll have LED screens to be flashed there and added automatically or tallied automatic,” he added.
