NEW YORK, USA — The brutal anti-Asian attack in Yonkers was caught on a security camera footage. A 67 year old Filipina was punched more than 125 times in the head and face and stomped on 7 times.
The victim – who has not been publicly identified – was returning home on Friday night when she saw the suspect in front of her building. The man allegedly called her an “Asian b*tch,” which the victim ignored.
The suspect, identified as 42 year old Tammel Esco, then followed her into the building and attacked her from behind. Esco directly punched her in the head, knocking her down the floor. After the physical assault, Esco spat on her twice.
Esco was detained shortly after when police officers saw him still outside the building.
Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller announced, “We’re gonna file this as a hate crime, and we’re charging attempted murder based on the number of strikes and the length of the attack.”
Mueller also disclosed that Esco has a lengthy criminal record including 14 arrests and multiple convictions. Esco is currently being held without bail.
“This defendant will be held to the maximum punishment allowed by law to send a clear message that hateful, violent behavior will not be tolerated in our communities,” said Mueller.
The victim is stable and recovering in the hospital. She suffered facial bone fractures and bleeding on the brain.
