MANILA, Philippines — P150 million worth of counterfeit COVID-19 antigen test kits, face masks, and medicine were seized from a warehouse in Manila. The raid was led by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) last Friday.
The warehouse was owned by a Chinese national who was later arrested. Thousands of fake Clungene COVID-19 antigen test kits, N95 masks, and herbal medicine were confiscated by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS). Knockoff versions of luxury brands were seized as well.
CIIS Chief Alvin Enciso said the raid was in coordination with the PNP and barangay officials. The warehouse is currently padlocked due to pending inventory.
The arrested Chinese national will face charges violating the Food and Drug Act, Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, and unlawful importation.
