Herber Bartolome, OPM Icon, Dies at 73

MANILA, Philippines — Herber Bartolome, renowned for his song “Tayo’y Mga Pinoy,” passed away the evening of November 15. This was confirmed by his brother Jesse Bartolome. 

The cause of his death was a prostate illness he had been fighting for a year. 

An outpour of tribute and love made its way online as netizens learned of Bartolome’s passing. 

Lolita Carbon, from the band Asin, shared a video of herself covering Bartolome’s song “Karaniwang Tao.” Gloc-9 also paid tribute by posting lyrics from “Tayo’y Mga Pinoy” on his Facebook page. 

Bartolome founded the band Banyuhay and was known to write its massive hits “Pasahero” and “Almusal.” 

Bartolome’s family has yet to release an official statement on his passing and burial details.
