MANILA,Philippines — While he is open to amendments to the 1987 Constitution, Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso said he intends to focus on the country’s pandemic response.
“Focus on the task ahead. We may amend our laws. I’m okay. Okay ako diyan. Anything that will develop our laws that addresses the situation of our people, go ako dyan.”
“For the meantime, how do we address life and livelihood? How do we move forward with normalcy? Doon ako nakafocus. Focus natin, tao muna,” he added.
On foreign ownership restrictions and economic liberalization, both key issues in constitutional reform in the country, Domagoso said he laments the situation of the country’s manufacturing sector and its inability to fully process its abundance of natural resources.
However, the 46-year-old mayor said he plans on restoring the confidence of the international community and foreign investors in the country’s industries before changing the law.
“Tingin ko, we have to win back the impression ng ating bansa, na pagkatiwalaan tayong muli,” Domagoso said.
“We will not change our rules in the middle of the ball game,” he added.
