Ramos Eyes Breakthrough at Caliraya Springs

CAVINTI, Laguna — Carrying high momentum and a hunger for redemption, professional golfer Sean Ramos returns to familiar fairways this week, aiming to conquer the local circuit. The 26-year-old local standout is building up high confidence as he joins a stellar field for the ICTSI Caliraya Springs Championship at the Caliraya Springs Golf and Country Club.

Ramos is fresh off a bitter-sweet runner-up finish in Malaysia, where he narrowly missed out on a title following a grueling three-man playoff at an Asian Development Tour (ADT) event in Selangor two weeks prior.

Ramos enters the tournament determined to secure his second Philippine Golf Tour (PGT) crown and build on his previous breakthrough victory on home soil:

  • Maiden PGT Triumph: Ramos captured his very first local tour title at the inaugural Lakewood Championship in 2024, where he held off highly seasoned tour veterans Tony Lascuña and Reymon Jaraula.
  • Balancing International Calendars: Since that initial win, he has consistently ranked among the tour’s top performers while carefully balancing his domestic appearances with competitive overseas campaigns on both the Asian Tour and the ADT.
  • The Hunger Factor: “Definitely, I’m very hungry for a win after coming off a good week at ADT in Malaysia,” Ramos stated. “I’m always thankful when I’m home and get to play the local tour.”

The ICTSI Caliraya Springs Championship serves as the highly anticipated second stop of the 10-leg local circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc., dangling a ₱2.5-million total prize purse.

Ramos, who finished in a respectable tie for seventh at the Caliraya layout last year, notes that the complex, rolling terrain rewards strategic precision over raw power. The demanding course heavily penalizes wayward aggressive play, prioritizing discipline and precise club selection over sheer distance off the tee.

Despite entering the week as one of the tour’s major favorites due to his peak international form, Ramos is choosing to keep his tactical expectations heavily grounded. He has focused his immediate pre-tournament preparations on incremental swing mechanics and fluid course management strategies alongside his coaching staff.

“Same preparations with all my events. I have been working with my coaches to get my game in the right direction for this year. I always try to play with no expectations, so I’m just hoping to put myself in contention and take it from there.” — Sean Ramos
