Legarda succeeds Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, who held the post since September 2025. Her election was a key component of the new “Duterte-aligned” majority’s consolidation of power.

- PhilHealth Oversight: She recently called for the full release of the remaining ₱220.39 billion in health funds, arguing that the recent return of ₱60 billion to the agency was only a first step in addressing the country’s healthcare gaps.
- Climate and Agriculture: As a long-time environmental advocate, she continues to push for the Sagip Saka initiatives and the accelerated transition to electric vehicles (EVs) to mitigate the impact of volatile fuel prices.
As the second-highest officer, Legarda will play a critical role in the upcoming Impeachment Trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
