LUCENA CITY, Philippines — The state weather bureau PAGASA has issued a warning as five areas in the Calabarzon region are expected to experience “dangerous” heat index levels on Tuesday, May 12, and Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
According to the 5:00 PM bulletin released on Monday, the high humidity combined with rising temperatures will push the “apparent temperature” into the 42°C to 51°C range, classified as the Danger category.
The following locations are expected to register a heat index of 42°C over the next 48 hours:
| Date | Affected Areas in Calabarzon |
| Tuesday, May 12 | Cavite City, Tanauan City (Batangas), Alabat (Quezon), and Los Baños (Laguna) |
| Wednesday, May 13 | Cavite City, Tanauan City (Batangas), Alabat (Quezon), and Infanta (Quezon) |
The Department of Health (DOH) and PAGASA have warned that prolonged exposure to these levels of heat significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.
- Potential Symptoms: Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely; heat stroke is a high risk with continued activity or direct sun exposure.
- Recommended Precautions:
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid tea, coffee, soda, and alcohol.
- Seek Shade: Limit outdoor activities, particularly between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM when the heat index is typically at its peak.
- Wear Appropriate Clothing: Opt for wide-brimmed hats, umbrellas, and light-colored, loose-fitting clothes.
- Emergency Response: Move anyone showing signs of heat exhaustion to a cool area, apply cold water to the skin, and seek immediate medical attention if the person loses consciousness or has a high fever.
Calabarzon is not alone in facing these extreme conditions. PAGASA noted that 29 areas nationwide are expected to hit the “danger” level on Tuesday, May 12.
The heat index reflects the level of discomfort felt by the human body as high humidity slows down the evaporation of sweat, making it more difficult for the body to cool itself naturally. Elevated heat levels are expected to persist as the country remains in the peak of the dry season.
