Manila Water Urges Customers to Avail Desludging Services Amid Dry Spell

MANILA, Philippines — As the country prepares for a potential “Super El Niño,” Manila Water is encouraging its customers to take advantage of its free septic tank desludging services this May. On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the east zone concessionaire highlighted that regular maintenance is critical during prolonged dry spells to prevent sanitation issues and foul odors.

Warmer and drier weather often leads to higher household water consumption, which can put extra pressure on septic systems, increasing the risk of overflows and environmental contamination.

Manila Water emphasized several benefits of participating in the scheduled program:

  • Prevent Sanitation Concerns: Regular cleaning prevents septic tank overflows and the release of untreated wastewater into local communities and waterways.
  • Eliminate Foul Odors: Drier conditions can exacerbate smells from full tanks; desludging mitigates this risk.
  • Cost Savings: The scheduled service is provided at no additional cost to customers, helping them avoid the expensive fees associated with emergency private desludging services.
  • Public Health: Proper wastewater management is essential in maintaining community hygiene, especially during the extreme heat currently being felt across the country.

Manila Water’s desludging teams will be deployed to portions of the following areas throughout May:

  • Antipolo City: Bagong Nayon, Sta. Cruz, and San Luis.
  • Cainta, Rizal: San Juan, Sta. Ana, San Andres, and San Isidro.
  • Other Rizal Areas: Sta. Ana (Taytay), Kalayaan (Angono), Banaba (San Mateo), and the municipality of Baras.
  • Marikina City: Malanday, Concepcion Uno, Parang, and Nangka.
  • Quezon City: Sacred Heart, St. Ignatius, and Camp Aguinaldo.
  • Mandaluyong & Pasig: Selected accounts in Addition Hills and Ugong.

Customers are advised to check official announcements from their respective barangays or contact Manila Water directly:

  • Coordination: Residents should ensure that their septic tanks are accessible and coordinate with barangay officials for the specific arrival date of the teams.
  • Information Channels: Customers can call the Manila Water Customer Care Hotline at 1627 or visit the company’s official social media pages for real-time updates.

Regular desludging is recommended every five to seven years. By participating in this program, residents contribute to Manila Water’s broader efforts in environmental protection and ensuring sustainable water services for the East Zone.
