MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau PAGASA has forecast cloudy skies and potential rainfall for several parts of the country this Sunday, April 26, 2026. The weather pattern is currently being influenced by two main systems: a frontal system affecting the northernmost tip of the country and the easterlies impacting the rest of the archipelago.
In its 5 a.m. official bulletin, PAGASA noted that while much of the country will see warm winds, specific regions should prepare for more active weather conditions.
- Batanes: This area is being directly affected by a frontal system—a collision of two different air masses. Residents should expect cloudy skies and possible rain throughout the day.
- Visayas and Mindanao: The easterlies (warm winds from the Pacific Ocean) are expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms, particularly to:
- Caraga
- Eastern Samar
- Southern Leyte
- Luzon (Central and Southern): These regions will also feel the effects of the easterlies, with a likelihood of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Despite the chance of rain, PAGASA continues to monitor high temperatures in other parts of the country.
- Heat Index Warning: The bureau previously warned of a heat index as high as 42°C in 14 different areas.
- Fair Weather Outlook: Weather specialist Veronica C. Torres indicated that the easterlies are expected to weaken by Monday, leading to generally fairer weather across most of the country by the start of the work week.
Given the possibility of thunderstorms:
- Caraga and Eastern Visayas: Residents are advised to stay alert for potential flash floods or landslides during heavy rain.
- Outdoor Activities: Those in Central and Southern Luzon should plan for sudden, short-lived rain showers despite a generally warm morning.
- Hydration: In areas not affected by rainfall, the public is urged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor exposure during the peak heat hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
