MANILA, Philippines — Manila Water has assured its customers in the East Zone of continuous, 24/7 water service throughout the summer of 2026, thanks to the successful integration of several newly developed and diversified water sources.
In a statement released on Friday, April 17, 2026, the company confirmed that its production and distribution systems are fully prepared to handle the surge in household consumption that typically coincides with the peak summer months and the Holy Week break.
To reduce reliance on the Angat Dam—the primary water source for Metro Manila—Manila Water has aggressively expanded its supply portfolio through several key infrastructure projects:
- Wawa–Calawis Water Supply System: This critical system improves water availability for eastern Metro Manila and Rizal Province. It includes the Calawis Water Treatment Plant, which provides up to 80 million liters per day (MLD).
- Upper Wawa Dam and Tayabasan Weir: These facilities, operated by WawaJVco, provide a steady bulk supply to Manila Water, significantly boosting resilience during dry periods.
- Cardona Water Treatment Plant: Located in Rizal, this plant draws and treats up to 110 MLD from Laguna Lake, serving as a vital secondary source for the East Zone.
Beyond new sources, the company is implementing several technical measures to ensure network efficiency:
- Leak Detection and Repair: Intensified activities are underway to minimize non-revenue water (NRW) and prevent wastage.
- System Optimization: Upgrades to existing pumping stations and treatment plants have been completed to maximize throughput during high-demand hours.
- Standby Personnel: Technical teams are stationed across the service area to provide immediate responses to emergency leaks or service interruptions, ensuring minimal disruption during the summer holidays.
The expansion of these sources is part of Manila Water’s broader multi-year investment plan aimed at securing the water needs of an ever-growing metropolitan population. By diversifying where raw water is drawn, the company is better equipped to mitigate the impacts of climate change and seasonal dry spells.
“Our goal is to ensure that every household in the East Zone has access to clean, reliable water, regardless of the season,” the company stated. As the country navigates the summer heat, the stabilized supply from Wawa and Laguna Lake offers a much-needed buffer against the traditional water shortages of years past.
