CAIRO, Egypt — Emerging gymnastics star Karl Eldrew Yulo has concluded his impressive run at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series Cairo Leg, securing two bronze medals and further cementing his place as a rising force in international gymnastics.
The 18-year-old Filipino athlete capped off the competition on Monday (Philippine time) by clinching a podium spot in the horizontal bar final.
Yulo delivered a composed performance on the high bar, earning 13.733 points to take the bronze. He followed closely behind China’s Li Hongyan, who claimed the gold with 14.000, and Cyprus’ Marios Georgiou, who secured the silver with 13.900.
This victory follows his success earlier in the week, where Yulo won his first bronze of the Cairo Leg in the floor exercise final. He posted a strong score of 14.000 to secure the third-place finish on Sunday.
Yulo’s double-bronze finish in Egypt is the latest highlight in a successful early-season campaign. In mid-March, he struck gold in the floor exercise during the Antalya Leg of the World Cup Series in Turkey.
The younger brother of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, Karl Eldrew is steadily stepping out of the shadow of his famous sibling. His consistent podium finishes in both the Antalya and Cairo legs demonstrate a high level of technical skill and competitive maturity.
With three World Cup medals already under his belt for 2026 (one gold, two bronzes), the younger Yulo is proving to be a serious contender for future major international competitions, including the upcoming Asian Championships and World Championships.
As the Philippines continues to strengthen its position as a gymnastics powerhouse in Asia, Karl Eldrew Yulo’s rise provides a promising glimpse into the future of the sport for the country.
