Victory Liner Adjusts Bus Trip Intervals as Fuel Crisis Drives Up Oil Prices

MANILA, Philippines — Provincial bus operator Victory Liner announced adjustments to the interval and frequency of its bus trips as the country grapples with rising fuel costs triggered by the ongoing global oil crisis.

In an advisory released Monday, the transport firm said the move aims to help sustain operations amid escalating fuel prices that have significantly increased operating expenses for public transport operators.

“Due to the ongoing fuel crisis, Victory Liner is currently facing significant operational challenges. As a result, the interval and frequency of our trips have been adjusted,” the company said.

The bus company acknowledged that the changes may cause inconvenience to commuters but stressed that the measure is necessary to ensure continued service for passengers traveling across Luzon. The firm urged the public to remain patient as it navigates the current situation affecting the transportation sector.

Despite the adjustments, passengers can still purchase tickets directly at bus terminals or through conductors onboard the buses.

The move comes as the government previously approved a fare increase for public utility vehicles, including provincial buses, through the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board. However, the planned fare hike was later suspended by Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who said it was not the right time to burden commuters with higher transportation costs.

Oil companies are also set to implement another round of fuel price hikes this week, extending the streak of weekly increases for gasoline, diesel, and kerosene as tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt global oil supply.

Transport groups have warned that prolonged fuel price increases could force operators to reduce trips or take other cost-cutting measures to stay afloat.

For now, Victory Liner said it will continue monitoring the fuel situation while working to maintain reliable services for commuters traveling between Metro Manila and provinces across Central and Northern Luzon.
