LTFRB Orders Safety Inspections of Buses and PUVs Ahead of Holy Week Exodus

MANILA, Philippines — With the Holy Week exodus approaching, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has directed intensified inspections of buses and public utility vehicles (PUVs) to ensure roadworthiness and passenger safety before millions of Filipinos travel for the long holiday.

In a nationwide directive, LTFRB officials instructed all regional offices to inspect transport units and terminals to verify that vehicles are in good condition and compliant with safety regulations. The move aims to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure that buses and PUVs are fit for long‑distance travel as families and holidaymakers prepare to head to provinces and tourist destinations.

The inspections will cover essential safety elements such as brakes, tires, lights, and other roadworthiness requirements, as well as physical and mental fitness of drivers. Coordination with other agencies and local government units is expected to support these efforts and maintain orderly terminal operations during the peak travel period.

The LTFRB’s action comes as part of broader preparations for the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the Holy Week break, a time when millions of commuters use public land transportation to return home or go on vacation.
