Makati Becomes First Philippine LGU Recognized for Championing Renewable Energy

Makati City has been recognized by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) as the first local government unit (LGU) in the country to champion renewable energy initiatives, highlighting the city’s efforts to promote sustainable and environmentally responsible power use.

The recognition was given for Makati’s programs that encourage the adoption of renewable energy in government operations and local infrastructure. City officials said the initiative supports the broader goal of reducing carbon emissions while helping promote clean energy solutions.

Through these efforts, the city government aims to strengthen sustainability programs and encourage the use of greener energy sources within the community.

The ERC noted that Makati’s initiative demonstrates how local governments can play a key role in advancing renewable energy adoption and supporting the country’s transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy system.

Officials also expressed hope that other cities and municipalities across the Philippines will follow Makati’s example by implementing similar programs that promote renewable energy and environmental protection.
