PASAY CITY, Philippines — Angelica Poquiz Yulo, mother of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, celebrated a significant personal milestone on Friday, March 13, as she officially graduated from college. The commencement ceremony, held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), saw Yulo receive her Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA) from Philippine Christian University (PCU).
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Yulo shared photos of herself in her black toga, accompanied by her husband, Mark Andrew Yulo. She emphasized that her achievement is a testament to the idea that “determination knows no age limit.” For Yulo, the diploma represents years of resilience and a refusal to abandon her personal dreams despite the various challenges of family life.
“They say it’s never too late and today I proved it,” she wrote in her caption. “This diploma isn’t just a paper; it’s a testament to my resilience and the refusal to let go of my dreams.”
Yulo completed her degree through the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP), a government initiative that allows working professionals and individuals with relevant work experience to earn a bachelor’s degree through an alternative learning path. She also expressed deep gratitude to the leadership of PCU for providing her with a full scholarship, which was instrumental in her journey.
The news comes as the Yulo family continues to navigate the public eye following their highly publicized rift in 2024. While it remains unclear if a full reconciliation between Angelica and Carlos has occurred, the family has been seen in more positive light recently, with Carlos seen bonding with his siblings earlier this year. Angelica’s graduation marks a moment of personal triumph and a “golden milestone” as she begins a new chapter in her professional life.
