
BAKU, Azerbaijan — Filipino gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo finished seventh in the horizontal bar final at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Baku, marking another milestone in his early career on the senior international stage.
The 18-year-old athlete, who is the younger brother of two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo, recorded a score of 13.033 points in the apparatus final to place seventh among eight finalists in the event.
Although he did not reach the podium, the result provided valuable experience for the young gymnast as he continues to compete against some of the world’s top athletes in senior-level competitions.
Yulo secured his place in the horizontal bar final after finishing sixth in the qualification round with a score of 13.533, earning a spot among the top competitors in the event.
Aside from the horizontal bar, the Filipino gymnast also competed in the floor exercise final, where he placed sixth, demonstrating his versatility across multiple apparatus events during the tournament.
Karl Eldrew Yulo is widely regarded as one of the Philippines’ rising stars in gymnastics. Before entering the senior circuit, he achieved success at the junior level, including bronze medal finishes in the floor exercise and horizontal bar at the 2025 Junior World Championships.
His participation in the Baku World Cup represents an important step in his development as he gains international exposure and experience competing against elite gymnasts.
Sports observers believe the young Filipino athlete has strong potential to follow in the footsteps of his brother Carlos Yulo and continue strengthening the country’s presence in international gymnastics competitions.
