Manila Water Replaces Over 168,000 Meters in 2025 to Curb Water Losses

MANILA, PhilippinesManila Water Company announced on February 23, 2026, that it successfully replaced 168,806 water meters throughout 2025, a key milestone in its campaign to improve billing accuracy and reduce non-revenue water (NRW) in the East Zone.

The large-scale meter replacement program is a central pillar of the company’s strategy to address commercial losses and ensure service reliability.

Key Performance Indicators (2025):

  • NRW Levels: Manila Water achieved a full-year average NRW of 14.27%. In December 2025 alone, NRW hit a low of 13.55%.
  • Leak Response: The company maintained a 100% compliance rate for mainline burst repairs. In 2025, teams repaired all 613 mainline bursts within 24 hours of reporting.
  • Service Efficiency: By replacing old meters with newer, more accurate models, the company reduces “commercial” losses—water that is consumed but not accurately billed due to aging hardware.

Management Statement:

Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water’s Corporate Communication Affairs Group Director, emphasized that rapid field response and active leak detection are essential to sustaining these low loss levels. “These operational measures directly support our commitment to service reliability and long-term water availability,” Sevilla said.

Looking Ahead to 2026:

The company plans to scale up its efficiency initiatives in 2026 by:

  • Expanding district metering improvements.
  • Implementing advanced network pressure management.
  • Continuing the aggressive meter replacement schedule.
  • Enhancing leak detection technologies to further lower physical water losses.
