Rainy Friday Across Philippines Due to Triple Weather Threat: PAGASA

MANILA, Philippines — Most parts of the country are bracing for a wet Friday as three weather systems—the northeast monsoon (amihan), the shear line, and the easterlies—converge to bring widespread rains.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin on February 20, 2026, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that these conditions are expected to persist for the next three days.

Regional Weather Breakdown:

  • Visayas and Mindanao: These regions will face the brunt of the shear line (the meeting of cool amihan winds and warm easterlies). Heavy rains, cloudy skies, and scattered thunderstorms are expected in:
    • Mindanao: Caraga, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and BARMM.
    • Visayas: Eastern Visayas, Cebu, Bohol, and Sulu.
  • Luzon: The northeast monsoon (amihan) continues to dominate, bringing cloudy skies and light rains to:
    • Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, and parts of the Cordillera (Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao).
  • Metro Manila: The capital, along with the rest of Luzon and the rest of Visayas, will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the amihan.

Tropical Cyclone Watch

PAGASA weather specialist Leanne Loreto confirmed that there are currently no low-pressure areas (LPA) being monitored for potential tropical cyclone formation within or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert for possible flash floods or landslides, especially in regions experiencing heavy or prolonged rainfall.
