
MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Storm Basyang has emerged over the Bohol Sea and is currently threatening parts of Central Visayas with a second possible landfall, according to the 5 a.m. bulletin from PAGASA on Friday, February 6, 2026.
The state weather bureau reported that the storm was last spotted in the vicinity of Jabonga, Agusan del Norte, moving west-northwestward at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour (kph).
Storm Intensity and Track
- Strength: Basyang currently packs maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center, with gusts reaching up to 90 kph.
- Landfall Forecast: Between Friday morning and afternoon, the storm is projected to pass close to or make another landfall over Bohol and the southern portions of Cebu and Negros Oriental.
- Future Movement: The storm is expected to emerge over the Sulu Sea, pass near the Cuyo Islands, and eventually cross the northern portion of Palawan.
Weather Hazards and Advisories PAGASA warned that Basyang will maintain its tropical storm status while traversing Central and Western Visayas, bringing stormy weather to the following regions:
- Central Visayas
- Negros Island Region
- Northern Mindanao
- Caraga
Serious Threats: Authorities warned of potential flash floods and landslides due to heavy to intense, and at times torrential, rains. Strong to gale-force winds also pose a minor to moderate threat to life and property in these areas.
Regional Impact: * Rain and Gusty Winds: Expected in the rest of Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Lanao del Sur, Masbate, Romblon, the Mindoro provinces, and Palawan.
- Metro Manila & Nearby Provinces: The trough of Basyang will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal.
Anticipated Weakening Basyang is forecast to weaken into a tropical depression by Friday night or Saturday morning as it continues its path across the archipelago, potentially becoming a low-pressure area by Sunday. Local governments in the affected Visayas and Mindanao regions have already initiated emergency measures to mitigate the storm’s impact.
