
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police Women and Children Protection Center (PNP WCPC) arrested four individuals on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, for allegedly attempting to sell two infants through online platforms.
The arrests were the result of separate entrapment operations conducted in Angeles City, Pampanga, and Baliwag City, Bulacan.
Angeles City Operation In Pampanga, authorities arrested the mother of a two-day-old baby boy for allegedly trying to sell the infant for P30,000.
- Motive: The WCPC reported that the mother claimed the pregnancy was unplanned and that she was struggling to support another child who suffers from epilepsy.
Baliwag City Operation In Bulacan, the mother, grandmother, and aunt of a three-month-old baby girl were apprehended for allegedly offering the child for sale for P130,000.
- Motive: According to police reports, the family intended to use the money to post bail for the child’s father and to fund a medical operation for the grandfather.
Legal Consequences The four suspects are currently in police custody and face multiple charges, including:
- Republic Act No. 9208: The Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.
- Republic Act No. 7610: The Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
- Republic Act No. 10175: The Cybercrime Prevention Act (due to the use of online platforms).
WCPC Statement WCPC Chief Brig. Gen. Maria Sheila Portento condemned the acts, stating, “It’s never acceptable to exploit children, especially through selling and online trafficking.” She emphasized that the police will continue to strengthen operations to ensure the safety and protection of minors.
The two rescued infants have been turned over to their respective local Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) offices for proper care and disposition.
