House Justice Committee Rejects Two Impeachment Complaints Against President Marcos

MANILA, Philippines — The House Committee on Justice has officially dismissed the two impeachment complaints filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., citing a lack of substance in the allegations.

Following the decision on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that the President was “pleased” with the outcome and emphasized that the ruling upholds due process and the truth.

The Committee’s Ruling The committee conducted a point-by-point review of the accusations before voting on their sufficiency in substance:

  • The “De Jesus” Complaint: Only one lawmaker, Pusong Pinoy Rep. Jernie Jett Nisay, voted to declare the complaint sufficient in substance. 42 members voted against it, while the three members of the Makabayan bloc abstained. Filed by Atty. Andre de Jesus, this complaint accused the President of betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.
  • The “Makabayan” Complaint: This second petition alleged betrayal of public trust over the allocation of infrastructure projects. It received only seven favorable votes versus 39 opposing votes.

Palace Response Press Officer Castro dismissed claims that the dismissal was a result of executive influence over the House leadership, noting that even non-supporters of the President and constitutional experts had labeled the complaints as “weak” and “without merit.”

  • Focus on the Economy: Castro relayed the President’s message for the country to “move forward.” “His focus now is on the economy and on improving the lives of every Filipino,” she said.
  • Merits of the Case: The Palace expressed satisfaction that lawmakers were able to verify that the complaints lacked merit, reinforcing the President’s confidence that he committed no impeachable offense.

Moving Forward With the dismissal of the petitions, the administration aims to pivot away from the political distraction. Chairperson of the Committee on Justice, Rep. Gerville Luistro, noted that the thorough review process helped clarify the issues raised by the complainants to the general public.

The dismissal effectively closes the current round of impeachment attempts against the President, allowing the executive and legislative branches to return their focus to national economic growth and legislative priorities for 2026.
