Amihan to Bring Cool Breeze and Light Rains to Northern Luzon; Tropical Depression Ada No Longer a Threat

MANILA, Philippines — Residents in Northern Luzon should keep their umbrellas handy as the northeast monsoon, locally known as the amihan, continues to influence the region’s weather.

According to the latest 5:00 a.m. bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the amihan is set to bring cloudy skies and light rains to the Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Meanwhile, the Ilocos Region and parts of Central Luzon can expect isolated light rains throughout the day.

Weather in the Metro and Beyond For those in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, the weather will be relatively fair, though isolated rain showers are still possible. These are expected to be caused by localized thunderstorms rather than the monsoon itself.

Despite the cool breeze associated with the amihan, state meteorologists advised the public to remain alert for sudden weather changes, particularly during afternoon or evening thunderstorms.

Update on Tropical Depression Ada PAGASA is still closely monitoring Tropical Depression Ada (international name: Nokaen) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). However, there is good news for coastal and land-based communities: the cyclone has weakened significantly and is no longer affecting any part of the country’s landmass. It continues to move slowly over the Philippine Sea and is expected to dissipate further without making landfall.

As the amihan season peaks, temperatures in Northern Luzon are expected to remain slightly lower than usual, offering a brief respite from the tropical heat.
