PCG Suspends Small Vessel Trips in Northern Quezon Due to Rough Seas

QUEZON – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has suspended trips for small vessels (250 gross tonnage and below) in northern Quezon province starting January 11, 2026 (Saturday), due to rough seas caused by the northeast monsoon (amihan) and shear line.

The suspension affects the following routes and areas:

  • General Nakar town
  • Polillo Islands group (including Panukulan, Burdeos, Patnanungan, and Jomalig)

PCG Northern Quezon Commander Capt. Arnel Satur issued the advisory early Saturday morning, citing gale-force winds and rough to very rough sea conditions (wave heights up to 2.5–4 meters) along the eastern seaboard of Luzon.

Key Details of the Suspension

  • Affected Vessels: Small passenger boats, fishing boats, and cargo vessels ≤250 GT
  • Larger Vessels: Allowed to operate with caution and proper safety measures
  • Reason: Gale warning issued by PAGASA; high risk of capsizing and accidents
  • Duration: Until further notice (expected to last several days as amihan remains strong)
  • Advice: Fisherfolk and commuters urged to stay ashore; monitor PCG and PAGASA updates

The suspension comes amid persistent heavy rains and strong winds across Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas, with flash flood and landslide risks elevated in mountainous areas.

Here are some visuals showing rough seas along Quezon’s eastern coast, PCG advisories, and typical small vessel operations in the affected areas.

Stay safe, northern Quezon residents and seafarers — always heed PCG warnings!
