MANILA – San Miguel Beermen superstar June Mar Fajardo downplayed concerns about his right shoulder after a physically demanding Game 1 performance in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals, insisting it’s nothing serious and he just needs rest.
In a post-game interview following the Beermen’s 90-99 loss to Barangay Ginebra on January 4, 2026, Fajardo admitted feeling discomfort in his shoulder during the match where he still managed a monster double-double of 27 points and 23 rebounds.
He said:
“It’s just a little sore. Nothing major. I’ve been playing through it. I just need rest, ice, and treatment. I’ll be good for Game 2.”
Fajardo, the league’s all-time leading rebounder and nine-time MVP, has been nursing the shoulder issue quietly for weeks but refused to sit out or ask for load management. Coach Leo Austria confirmed the team is monitoring the situation closely, with Fajardo scheduled for treatment and possible limited practice before Game 2 on January 7.
Despite the pain, Fajardo played 38 minutes and dominated the boards against Ginebra’s bigs. Fans and analysts praised his toughness but worry about long-term wear, especially with a best-of-7 series ahead.
The Beermen trail 0-1 in the semis and will need a healthy “Kraken” to bounce back.
