Three Weather Systems Bring Rain Showers to Most of PH on January 9, 2026

MANILA – Three weather systems continue to influence the Philippines, causing widespread rain showers across much of the country on Friday, January 9, 2026, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia explained:
“A shear line is still affecting eastern Southern Luzon, while the rest of Luzon continues to experience the northeast monsoon, or amihan, bringing rainy weather to much of the country or cooler conditions over large areas of the landmass. Meanwhile, easterlies are affecting the remaining parts of the country, bringing rain to various areas across the Philippines.”

No low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Breakdown by Weather System

  • Shear Line → Cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Bicol Region and Northern Samar. Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.
  • Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) → Cloudy skies with light rains over the rest of Luzon (including Metro Manila in some forecasts).
  • Easterlies → Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Visayas and Mindanao.

A gale warning remains for seaboards of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur (rough seas)—fisherfolk advised not to venture out.
