Marcos Urges Cagayan Student-Athletes to Practice Sportsmanship and Discipline

CAMALANIUGAN, Cagayan – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. attended the opening of the 2026 Cagayan Provincial Athletic Association (CPAA) Meet at the Camalaniugan Sports Complex on January 8, 2026, where he rallied over 7,000 student-athletes from 28 municipalities to embrace sportsmanship, discipline, and healthy competition.

Amid cheers from around 8,000 spectators, Marcos emphasized sports as a vital training ground: “Let us instill the spirit of sports and maintain healthy competition and friendship towards a goal of bringing honor to your province and the country.” He added, “Sports is your training ground to gain discipline,” encouraging participants to compete fairly even without victory.

The event showcased youthful energy and provincial pride, with Marcos highlighting sports’ role in character-building for the nation’s future.
