MANILA – The Manila city government has suspended classes at all levels (public and private, including online/face-to-face) and work in local government offices on Friday, January 9, 2026, in observance of the Feast of the Black Nazarene and the annual Traslación procession.
Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso issued Executive Order No. 1, Series of 2026, citing safety, order, and solemnity for the event expected to draw millions of devotees. Work suspensions in national agencies and private companies in Manila remain at managements’ discretion.
The Traslación reenacts the transfer of the Black Nazarene image from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church—a ~6-km route often lasting 15-20 hours. Past events drew 6-8 million participants.
