DOH Encourages Meditation as a Tool for Mental Health and Stress Management

The Department of Health (DOH) has encouraged the public to consider meditation as a simple and effective way to support mental well-being, particularly amid rising cases of stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue. Health officials said meditation can serve as a helpful complement to professional care and healthy lifestyle practices.

According to the DOH, regular meditation helps calm the mind, improve focus, and promote emotional balance. The practice has been linked to lower stress levels, better sleep quality, and improved coping mechanisms, especially for individuals dealing with work pressure, personal challenges, or post-pandemic adjustments.

The agency emphasized that meditation does not require special equipment or extensive training, making it accessible to people of all ages. Simple breathing exercises, short periods of quiet reflection, or guided meditation sessions can already provide benefits when done consistently.

Health experts also noted that meditation may support physical health by helping regulate blood pressure and reducing the body’s stress response. However, the DOH clarified that meditation should not replace medical treatment, particularly for individuals with diagnosed mental health conditions.

The department continues to promote holistic approaches to wellness, combining physical activity, balanced nutrition, adequate rest, and mental health awareness. The DOH reiterated its commitment to expanding public education initiatives that encourage Filipinos to prioritize both mental and emotional well-being.
