Duterte’s youngest daughter, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, confirmed the no-visit policy after informing her father during a recent allowed visit. “He was disappointed but accepted it,” she said, adding that family and supporters plan to hold a vigil outside the facility to show solidarity. The ICC is on judicial recess from December 12, 2025, to January 5, 2026, suspending proceedings and limiting access further.
Duterte’s lead counsel, Nicholas Kaufman, earlier noted efforts to request exceptions but acknowledged: “On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, these are official court holidays—no visits are allowed.” The defense continues pushing for humanitarian considerations, citing Duterte’s age (80) and health.
This marks Duterte’s first holiday season in custody since his March 2025 arrest and extradition. While detainees can participate in facility activities or receive non-visit support (e.g., gifts), the barred visits underscore the strict protocols of international detention.
