Blaze Hits Mandaluyong Residential Area: Fire Damages Homes in Barangay Addition Hills

MANDALUYONG CITY – A fire broke out in a residential area along Martinez Street in Barangay Addition Hills on Friday afternoon, December 13, 2025, damaging several homes and prompting a rapid response from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). The blaze, reported at 3:45 p.m., was declared under control by 4:30 p.m. and fully extinguished by 5:15 p.m., with no injuries reported but leaving families assessing the wreckage as the holiday season approaches.

The BFP raised the first alarm at 3:50 p.m., escalating to second alarm by 4:05 p.m. as flames threatened to spread in the densely packed neighborhood. Firefighters from Mandaluyong and nearby stations battled the inferno, which originated in a two-story residential structure and affected at least five adjacent homes. Initial investigations point to an electrical overload as the likely cause, though a full probe is underway.

Mandaluyong City Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Roberto Garcia confirmed the containment: “Our teams responded swiftly, preventing the fire from engulfing the entire block.” Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr. visited the site, pledging immediate aid: “We are coordinating with the DSWD and city social welfare for relief goods, temporary shelter, and rebuilding support. No family will be left behind this Christmas.”

Affected residents, many low-income families in the barangay’s tight-knit community, expressed shock but gratitude for the quick response. “We lost clothes, appliances, and memories, but thank God no one was hurt,” shared one evacuee, clutching a salvaged photo album. The city has set up a temporary evacuation center at the barangay hall, distributing food packs, blankets, and hygiene kits.

This incident comes amid a spike in fire cases during the cooler, drier “ber” months, when electrical faults and holiday lights often spark blazes. The BFP has intensified awareness campaigns, urging residents to check wiring and avoid overloading circuits.

As Mandaluyong rallies for its displaced families, the fire serves as a sobering reminder: In a season of lights and warmth, safety must shine brightest.
